Brand Home Page

A brand home page is a web page shown when somebody opens one of the brand's sender domains in a browser, at https://your-domain.com/. Every sender domain on the brand shows the same page once its DNS points at EmailElement. The page can run its own JavaScript.

Creating a Home Page

  1. Open Brands and select the brand.
  2. In Brand Templates, find the Home Page row and click Create.
  3. Choose Custom HTML or Drag and Drop. There is no Plain Text option, because a home page is a web page.
  4. The editor opens with a starter page that uses the brand's name and address. Replace its text with your own.
  5. Click Create to save it.

The Drag and Drop editor opens in web page mode, so its blocks are laid out for a browser rather than an inbox. A custom HTML home page cannot be saved empty: the editor shows "A home page needs content before it can be saved."

What the page can contain

  • JavaScript. A <script> tag in the page is kept and runs in the visitor's browser.
  • Spintax. {Spintax Option1|Option2|Option3} picks one option each time the page loads.
  • The brand's own fields. Right-click in the custom HTML editor, or open the merge tags in Drag and Drop, to insert them:
Tag Shows
{BrandName} Brand name
{BrandAddress1} Address line 1
{BrandAddress2} Address line 2
{BrandCity} City
{BrandStateOrProvince} State or province
{BrandCountry} Country
{BrandPostalCode} Postal code

Contact fields, conditional tags and unsubscribe tags are not offered. A visitor to the page is not a contact and did not receive a send, so there is nothing to fill them with. Links and images appear exactly as written, and clicks on the page are not tracked.

Pointing your domains at the page

The Home Page Configuration & DNS panel sits beside the editor.

  1. Copy the IP Address shown at the top of the panel.
  2. At your domain provider, add an A record on each sender domain listed, for the bare domain itself (often written @), pointing at that IP address.
  3. Save the home page. The Validate buttons stay disabled until you do, and the panel says "Please create/save your Home Page before testing".
  4. Click Validate next to a domain to check it.

Each domain shows two checks:

  • HTTP, the status bar. Pending until it has been checked, then Success when the domain shows your page, or Failed when it does not.
  • SSL, below it, for whether the page loads securely over https.

A failed check tells you which domain failed and the IP address its A record should point at. DNS changes can take a while to spread, so a domain that fails straight after you add the record may pass a little later.

Each domain name in the panel links to its sender domain page. If the brand has no active sender domains, the panel says so and links to Sender Domains so you can add one.

Where else the checks appear

  • The Brand page. While the brand has an active home page, Sender Domains for this Brand shows a Brand Home Page column with each domain's status.
  • The sender domain page. Under Advanced, a Brand Home Page block shows the domain, the IP address and both checks. Validate DNS Records runs these checks along with the others. They do not change the domain's overall DNS Validation Status, so a domain with no home page record can still send.

Switching it off

Use the Active toggle on the Home Page row to switch the page off without deleting it. While it is off, or once it is deleted, the brand's domains stop showing it, and the home page checks disappear from the Brand page and the sender domain page. A home page is optional, and there is no default one.

A domain used by more than one account

A domain can only point at one place, but more than one EmailElement account can add the same sender domain. When that happens, the domain shows the home page whose HTTP check has passed. Until exactly one of them has passed, the domain shows no brand home page. If your page is not showing on a domain you share with another account, click Validate on it.
