Creating and Managing Bounce Rules
A soft bounce is temporary, so sending keeps trying — but an address that soft bounces the same way over and over is not coming back. A bounce rule watches for a phrase in the bounce message and, once it has seen it enough times inside the number of days you set, adds that contact to the suppression lists you choose.
Instructions
- Navigate to Delivery Events > Bounce Rules tab.
- Click Create Bounce Rule. Enter a name for the rule.
- Enter Contains Message Text: a substring found in the soft bounce event message you want to capture (e.g., "would exceed quota").
- Set Soft Bounce Count: how many times the bounce must occur before suppression. Set Rolling Interval: number of days the bounces must occur within (e.g., 5 bounces in 7 days).
- Optionally select specific Send Integration(s) to scope the rule.
- Select one or more Suppression Lists where matching contacts will be added. Click Create.
