EmailMonitor Dead Seeds Auto-Suppression Setup
Prerequisites
- An active EmailMonitor account (emailmonitor.io) with API access.
- The API Key from your EmailMonitor account.
- A suppression list in EmailElement with a format compatible with EmailMonitor's dead-seed output (typically Email).
About EmailMonitor Dead Seeds
EmailMonitor maintains sets of known-inactive ("dead") seed addresses — addresses that have become non-responsive, been retired, or should no longer be mailed. Importing them as a suppression source prevents your sends from hitting those addresses and keeps engagement metrics clean.
For the companion live-seed workflow (pulling active EmailMonitor seeds into a Contact List for seeding campaigns), see the platform-seed-imports skill.
Getting the API Key
- Log in to your EmailMonitor dashboard at emailmonitor.io.
- Locate your API Key in your account / API section.
- Copy the key — you will need it in EmailElement.
Configuring in EmailElement
- Navigate to Suppression Lists in EmailElement.
- Create a new suppression list or select an existing one:
- If creating new: click Create Suppression List > enter a name (e.g., "EmailMonitor Dead Seeds") > select the appropriate format > click Create.
- Open the suppression list by double-clicking it in the grid.
- Toggle the Automated Imports slider to On.
- Select EmailMonitor - Dead Seeds from the List Provider dropdown.
- Paste the API Key from your EmailMonitor account. No other credential fields are required.
- The Download URL is auto-populated after selecting the provider.
- Set the Frequency (1–14 days). Daily is recommended for most use cases.
- Choose the Mapping Type:
- Append To List — add new records on top of existing entries.
- Repopulate List — replace the list contents with the latest pull.
- Click Save to store the configuration.
- Click Run Now to perform the initial download and verify the connection.
Verifying the Setup
- After clicking Run Now, wait for the import to complete.
- Check the upload history grid in the suppression list detail view.
- Confirm that records were processed and the count is reasonable.
- If the import fails, verify:
- The API Key is correct (no extra spaces).
- Your EmailMonitor account is active and has API access.
- The suppression list format matches what EmailMonitor provides.
Ongoing Maintenance
- Automated imports run on the configured frequency without manual intervention.
- Check the import history periodically to ensure downloads are completing.
- If the API Key changes in EmailMonitor, update it in EmailElement immediately.
- If you use Repopulate List, each run replaces the list entirely — useful when EmailMonitor's dead-seed set shrinks as well as grows.
