Segments

A segment is a saved set of rules that picks contacts out of your lists — by email domain, by which list they are on, by a field on the contact, by something they did, or by what validation returned. You send to a segment the same way you send to a Contact List.

Instructions

  1. Navigate to Segments > Create Segment. Enter a name for the segment.
  2. Click Add Filter and choose a filter type: Domain Groups (filter by email domain like AOL, Google), Contact Lists (filter by list membership + date range), Contact Attributes (filter by any contact field), Contact Actions (filter by Clicked, Opened, Converted, Received), or Email Validations (filter by validation status).
  3. Configure the filter conditions. For Contact Attributes, combine multiple attributes with AND (match all) or OR (match any) operators.
  4. Click Add to apply the filter, then Create and Run Segment to execute. The segment count shows how many contacts match.
  5. Add more filters to narrow results. Already-used filter types are grayed out. Click Save and Run Segment after changes.
  6. Check Suppression Count on the segment grid — click the list icon to see the adjusted count after suppression lists are applied.
  7. A Contact Actions filter on Opened counts real opens only. An open from an IP address or user agent on our bot list is stored as a bot open, not as an open, so it never matches this filter. That covers mailbox privacy proxies such as Apple Mail Privacy Protection. The same applies to Clicked and bot clicks.
