Validation Results Reference

Every validated address comes back as one of these. They are the values of EmailValidationStatusType, and the same names appear as columns on the Email Validation Report.

Validation Statuses

Status	What it means	What to do
Verified	The address is good	Safe to send
Undeliverable	The address does not accept mail	Suppress it
Catch-All	The domain accepts anything, so the address could not be confirmed either way	Send with care. A catch-all tells you nothing about the individual address
Role	A shared address such as info@, sales@ or support@	Usually worth suppressing. Nobody owns it and complaints are more likely
Malformed	Not a valid address at all	Suppress it, and check where it came from
Spam Trap	A known trap address	Suppress immediately. These exist to catch senders with poor list hygiene
Complainer	A contact known to report mail as spam	Suppress it
Bot	Machine activity rather than a person	Suppress it. It will inflate opens and clicks otherwise
Seed Account	A seed address used for inbox monitoring	Leave it. It is there on purpose
Disposable Email	A throwaway address that stops working shortly after it is made	Suppress it
Suppressed	Already on a suppression list	Nothing to do. It will not be sent to
Retry	The check could not finish and will be tried again	Wait. It resolves itself
Unverified	Not validated	Validate before sending, or accept the risk
Unknown	The provider gave no usable answer	Retry later, or send with care

Unverified is not a result. It is what an address is before anything has looked at it, so a list full of Unverified means validation has not run yet rather than that it failed.

Best Practices

Validate lists before first send to new contacts
Set recurring validation (60-90 days) for active lists
Create segments filtering by validation status
Suppress "Undeliverable" addresses to protect sender reputation
Monitor validation credits in your EmailOversight account
